Just like it says, doityourself.com is THE place if you want to do-it-yourself. There are many how-to's on building and remodeling, repair and fixing, decorating, and outdoors. You'll find the estimating and calculator functions to be very helpful. Sign up for the free newsletter while you're there. Startremodeling.com is terrific. It's run by independent contractors who want to help you. "Ask the professionals" if you need some advice. One section is devoted to tub, tile, and counters. The projects page is a cornucopia of do-it-yourself instructionals like building your own bookshelves or repairing drywall. Repairplace.com not only helps you fix things, but shows you how they work as well. They offer the most current information as well as a complete archive. This site also offers an email newsletter. Hometime.com is the Internet home base for the tv show of the same name. They have a fantastic collection of how-to's, and a tools and safety section. Gazebo, lawn furniture, and playhouse plans are also for sale. Better Homes and Gardens of magazine fame, has added electronic articles to their resume. Check out the home improvement encyclopedia at bhglive.com/homeimp for help on all types of projects. Vidbook.com has a new concept: free online video tutorials. Many of these are home-improvement related. Learn about installing electrical fixtures, wood refinishing, or gain some plumbing tips. There is also a home and garden section. It's a great concept, and with any luck more sites will follow suit. How about some free software again this week? Floorplan.com is kind enough to offer us kitchen design software, TurboCad 2D, and Turbo project design software, all entirely gratis. Their library also lists how-to articles, and the tools section has carpet and wallpaper estimators among other things. With forums and tips and tricks, this site is worth the click. When it comes to the appliances for the home, repairclinic.com has the help for you. Appliance repair tips and help, and the Repair Guru is ready to answer your questions. Appliancetips.com is another excellent source of information. Items are listed by the type of item needing repair (air conditioner, microwave, etc.). Money saving ideas and maintenance tips are listed, and you can sign up for the appliance tips newsletter. Of course there are always the big companies sites such as DIY, Lowes, and Home Depot.
