It’s hard to believe its time for school again. This year, the webmasters have been hard at work preparing pages to help make back to school easier for parents and teachers. For Parents: How would you like a checklist to make this school year go smoother than ever? Go to smarterkids.com/rescenter/library/articles/back_to_school_tips.asp for tips to help kids adjust to school. Safety tips, discussion areas, the list goes on. Mom is already working on lunch for all the kids to take with them. Would you like some new ideas? Try the ones cooked up for you at allrecipes.com/features/backtoschool.asp. The recipes include some after school energy boosters and a kid’s cookbook. The National Crime Prevention Council is located at ncpc.org. Educate your children on everyday dangers sometimes overlooked in our busy lives. The entire site is great, featuring McGruff the crime dog as your tour guide. Back-to-school tips are just to the left of the yellow school bus. The National Safety Council has additional tips at nsc.org/mem/youth/8_top.htm. You’ll soon be printing those school fund-raising flyers. Some terrific school-related clipart is listed at cyberbee.com/bts.html. For Teachers: And lets not leave out our teachers. Proteacher.com is one super teacher site. You’ll find lesson plans, classroom management, book recommendations, fund raising ideas, and an area to network with other instructors. The sections are separated by grade level and curriculum. There is a special area for substitute teachers, special needs, and new instructors. Another teacher and home-schooling site is themeunits.com. These are complete themes, each based around a particular area of study such as the senses, sharing, autumn, etc. - Fun projects are all over this site. Try the September links button on the main page for current ideas. Bry-backmanor.org is a site for special needs children, although anyone in education or school can benefit from their free offerings. The school calendar templates are great, just print and fill in. Another page lists several fonts, clipart, and how about some back-to-school poetry! One unique feature is a page of handwriting tracing fonts for kids to practice on. It is a cute little site, visit this page: bry-backmanor.org/backtoschool.html As it sounds, sitesforteachers.com lists hundreds of teacher resource sites! Some are specialized, while others cover the entire realm from kindergarten through college level. Specialties range from ESL to life skills, music to flashcards. A couple that caught my eye were edhelpers.com with over 10,000 lesson plans, worksheets and webquests (educational internet information searches) and teacherweb.com, a place for teachers to set up their own homework website for free! At perpetualpreschool.com/schoolideas.html, the ideas are all submitted by other teachers just like you. Find something you like, then post some of your own tips. Nationsonline.org/oneworld takes on education from a global point of view. Select a region of the planet and be greeted by a map of the area. Proceed to learn about its cities, capitals, type of government, newspapers, and so much more. Using the tips and utilities on these sites, and taking some time to plan ahead can make back-to-school fun for everyone. |
